That’s a big part of how they keep the price down. The Rough Rider hammer and trigger are made of MIM steel (Mold Injected Metal). It’s easy to manipulate the trigger without moving the pistol during the trigger pull. Heritage makes a very nice, clean, and crisp trigger. The classic design of a single-action revolver lends itself to a good trigger, and they didn’t disappoint. The keys point to an accurate pistol are the barrel and the trigger. What Are the Quality Standards on the Rough Rider? But if the real-world shooting results mean anything, poor accuracy is not an issue with this one. It’d be nice to see what they would do when strapped to a vise and fired with no discernable movement. The rough rider pistols are factory tested for function, but not for accuracy. The rounded crown is cut deeply along the muzzle and is finished nicely. The steel barrels are torqued into the aluminum frames and are pretty concentric with the cylinder and frame. It doesn’t seem to be a problem and may cause the bullets to fit tighter and properly gas-seal with a wider variety of bullets. The grooves seem to be a bit shallow compared to the other 22 rifles that I own. The twist rate is 1:14, which is perfect for stabilizing a 40-grain bullet in a pistol barrel. The rifling is cut using a button broach for a classic button rifling. After that, they are rifled, crowned, and blued. They are cut down, drilled, and threaded on the breech end. Heritage Manufacturing manufactures their own barrels out of solid steel rods. It’s no surprise that a big component of fine accuracy is quality in the construction of the barrel. It seems to me that despite it being the lowest priced pistol on the gun store shelves it’s a fine shooting and fun pistol. I have yet to find someone who wasn’t satisfied with the accuracy of their Rough Rider. It’s a good design, and the slightly smaller size is fitting for a 22. The internals are pretty much straight-up copied from the old colt revolvers. Basically, it’s a 7/8 size colt with a cheaper finish and a side safety to make it more kid-friendly. Check out the videos on YouTube sometime. So, how good do the experts shoot with the heritage Rough Rider? I’ve watched numerous experts shoot the rough rider as good as any colt. The best way to test out the accuracy of a gun is to give it to the best shooter and watch the results. That’s not super, but it’s not too bad either. Normally, I can hit a 9-inch paper plate off-hand with most shots at 25 yards. My best day at the range with it was shooting clay pigeons at 50 yards. I will say that the most accurate pistol I’ve ever fired is my Heritage Rough Rider in 22 LR. I’m a pistol marksman by no means, but I’m working on it. I’ve never been a crack shot with a pistol. What Kind of Accuracy Can I Expect with a Rough Rider? I contacted other rough rider owners, as well as Heritage Manufacturing, to get more hands in information about the accuracy in shooting, and the precision of the manufacturing. Heritage puts a high degree of craftsmanship into their pistols Experienced single-action revolver marksman can generally shoot 4-inch clay pigeons at 50 yards with a high degree of success. The Heritage Rough Rider is a very accurate pistol.

A person may also have more than one eye color, a condition called Heretochromia, which affects less than 1% of people. The lack of pigment leads to red or violet eyes and often problems with their eyesight. Persons with albinism have very little or no melanin in the iris. These people make up about 9% of the U.S. Nevertheless, green eyes are common in a few parts of the world, like Ireland and Scotland. Green eyes:Īpproximately 2% of the world's population has green eyes, making it the rarest eye color. The collagen is scatted by light to make the eyes look gray. The gray-eyed have little or no melanin in their iris but have more collagen in the stroma part of the eye. More people living in Asian, South American, Spanish, and South Africa are more likely to be amber-eyed Gray eyes:Ĭlose to 3% of people in the world have gray eyes. Amber eyes:Īmber eyes have a little more melanin than hazel eyes, and still account for approximately 5% of the population. Hazel eyes are most common in North Africa, the Middle East, Brazil, and Spain. Hazel eyes:Ībout 5% of the world’s population and 18% of Americans have hazel eyes - a mixture of green, gold, and orange. Scientists believe that all blue-eyed people can be traced back to a common ancestor, who probably had a genetic mutation that reduced their melanin in the iris. Blue eyes:Ĭlose to 8%-10% of people have blue eyes, with the US having a percentage of around 27%. and a higher population in Africa, and Asia are brown-eyed. In fact, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) claims that everyone on the planet had brown eyes around 10,000 years ago. Eye Color Percentage Around the Worldīrown eyes: Estimates show that 70%-80% of the world’s population have brown eyes. Many babies born with blue eyes experience a change in color as more pigment develops within the first three years. Instead, they have less melanin, absorb less light, scatter more light and reflect it along the spectrum of light color.Īn iris with little melanin appears blue, while those with more little melanin appear green or hazel.Įye color may not remain constant throughout your life. Although it is a common misconception that all people with albinism have red eyes, the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation states that most have blue eyes, with some having hazel or brown eyes.Non-brown eyes have no different color pigments. Individuals with albinism often have very low melanin levels in their eyes, causing their irises to appear blue or, in rare cases, red or violet. AlbinismĪlbinism is a genetic condition that results in a reduced amount of melanin in a person's body, including their eyes. Lighter-colored eyes, like blue or violet, have less melanin in the iris, allowing more light to be reflected back out and making the eye appear lighter. The more melanin, the darker the eye color. The amount of melanin present in the iris determines its color, and genetics dictate the amount of melanin a person has. Melanin is a brown pigment that influences the color of our skin, hair, and eyes. In the case of natural violet eyes, albinism plays a significant role in addition to melanin and genetics. The color of a person's eyes is determined by the amount of melanin in their iris and their genetic makeup. On May 2, 1980, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans found in favor of Domino's Pizza. In 1975, Domino's faced a lawsuit by Amstar Corporation, the maker of Domino Sugar, alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition. Domino's Pizza opened its first franchise location in 1967 and by 1978, the company had expanded to 200 stores. Monaghan planned to add a new dot with the addition of every new store, but this idea quickly faded, as Domino's experienced rapid growth. The company logo originally had three dots, representing the three stores in 1965. Monaghan immediately loved the idea and officially renamed the business Domino's Pizza, Inc. One day, an employee, Jim Kennedy, returned from a pizza delivery and suggested the name "Domino's". Monaghan wanted the stores to share the same branding, but the original owner forbade him from using the DomiNick's name. īy 1965, Tom Monaghan had purchased two additional pizzerias he now had a total of three locations in the same county. Within eight months, James traded his half of the business to Tom for the Volkswagen Beetle they used for pizza deliveries. The brothers planned to split the work hours evenly, but James did not want to quit his job as a full-time postman to keep up with the demands of the new business. The deal was secured by a $500 down payment, then the brothers borrowed $900 to pay for the store. In 1960, Tom Monaghan and his brother, James, took over the operation of DomiNick's, an existing location of a small pizza restaurant chain that had been owned by Dominick DeVarti, at 507 Cross Street (now 301 West Cross Street) in Ypsilanti, Michigan, near Eastern Michigan University. Domino's has stores in over 83 countries and 5,701 cities worldwide. As of 2018, Domino's had approximately 15,000 stores, with 5,649 in the United States, 1,500 in India, and 1,249 in the United Kingdom. The corporation is Delaware-domiciled and headquartered at the Domino's Farms Office Park in Ann Arbor Township, near Ann Arbor, Michigan. Wagner’s Lanes & The Complexxįinally, it should come as no surprise that Wagner’s and The Complexx landed a spot on this list, as this is a super popular spot for both playing and watching sports! In addition to their amazing beers and appetizers (their cheese curds are bomb), Wagner’s offers all kinds of specials for football games including buckets of beer and wing deals! Along with these awesome deals, The Pourhouse is all about getting the community together to have some fun they host a tippy cup tournament every St. Most recently, this bar and grill had a Super Bowl Pot Luck Party and Loaded Bloody Mary event. Okay, so maybe The Pourhouse is located on the outskirts of the Chippewa Valley (Elk Mound, to be exact), but that doesn’t matter to the people of Eau Claire what does matter is that they have the best Packer and Badger parties! From potlucks to shots and half-priced mixers at every touchdown, there’s no way you can’t enjoy watching the game at The Pourhouse. Snacks, games, and good company-what more could you ask for. In addition, if you’re chewing your nails during halftime or you’re just along for the ride, Ray’s has all kinds of bar games to indulge in shoot some pool with the guys and gals or challenge someone to a round of darts! During Packer and Badger games at Ray’s, you can expect Jell-O shots at every touchdown as well as a halftime spread. In addition to their juicy burgers, Court'N House has some of the best bar food to choose from as well as an excellent drink selection (and let’s not forget about their Packer Backer sandwich, which is loaded with two brat patties, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese). With that said, this spot is one of the best places to watch the big game. If you’re lucky enough to score a seat at this bar, don’t surrender it-it’s the perfect place to watch a game! Court'N House is one of the most Wisconsin bars in the Chippewa Valley the wait staff is super friendly, and even if you have to wait a little while for a table (because they are wildly popular), they’ll make sure you feel right at home and have a beer in hand within minutes of walking through the door. Where are the best spots to watch the game, though? We asked Eau Clairians about their favorite sports bars in the Chippewa Valley, and these were the most popular responses: 1. Court'N House Bar & Grill Whether you’re a die-hard Packers, Badgers and Bucks fan or you’re just looking for an excuse to drink beer and eat cheese, one thing we can all agree on is that there are countless places in Eau Claire to watch the big game. On the eastern side of the bridge, the Kent Island area has hotels and waterfront restaurants, plus the Queenstown Premium Outlets are nearby. The lanes are clearly marked with lighted marking to show which way to go. Most of the time, all the lanes on each span have traffic going in the same direction, but during rush hours and times of heavy weekend beach traffic, the lanes change direction to ease traffic congestion. Note: Only passengers should be looking at the scenery – the bridges do not have full road shoulders and, therefore, do not offer motorists the same maneuvering space found on other roadways to avoid accidents, therefore it’s very important for drivers to keep their eyes on the road. You will see lots of sail boats and other pleasure boats on the Bay during nice summer days. The bridges rise 186 feet above the water, affording a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area. If you need help getting across the bridge, there is a service that will drive you across in your own car (see the “Assistance Driving Across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge” section below).įor passengers, the view from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge can be spectacular. The key is to pay attention to traffic conditions and keep your eyes on the road. But for many people it’s not a big deal and can even be a pleasant experience. If you have a fear of bridges or a fear of heights, then crossing the Bay Bridge may be uncomfortable for you. There’s been a lot of press about how the Bay Bridge is one of the scariest bridges in America. The first bridge (eastbound span) opened in July of 1952 and the second bridge (westbound span) opened in June of 1973. The Bay Bridge is actually two side-by-side bridges with two lanes of traffic on each span. The Bridge is 4.2 miles long – one of the longest over water structures in the world. Memorial (Bay) Bridge – but most locals refer to it simply as the “Bay Bridge,” or sometimes the Chesapeake Bridge. The bridge is named after William Preston Lane, Jr., who was the Governor of Maryland when construction of the first span began. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which takes Route 50 across the Chesapeake Bay between the Kent Island and Annapolis areas, is officially named The William Preston Lane Jr. We also have a page about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, the Bay’s southern crossing that spans the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. This page is about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland. Note: The Chesapeake Bay region has two spectacular bridges. It’s a massive, vertical circular slab that rises dramatically into the sky. We needed to use a lot of tricks (“there’s a butterfly waiting for you at the top of those steps”), but our kids climbed every step to the top by themselves.Ĭhimney Rock is the park’s signature granite outcropping. With all those stairs on the Outcroppings Trail, it was a little slow going with our kids. (There is an elevator to the top if ~500 stairs seems too much for your family…). There is an intermediate viewpoint halfway up the Outcroppings Trail called Pulpit Rock which provides a little taste of what is to come.Īccording to a sign at the beginning, the Outcroppings Trail has approximately 500 stairs, but to be honest it felt quite a bit shorter than that. The Outcroppings Trail isn’t really a trail, it’s mostly just stairs. We wanted to regain some energy for the big climb up the Outcroppings Trail to the Chimney Rock Lookout. Once at the top, we stopped and had a break for lunch. Our 5 year old daughter climbed the stairs all by herself, but our 3 year old son needed to be picked up for parts of it. It wasn’t very long before we arrived at the long set of stairs leading to the main entrance. Refreshed from their break and now hiking downhill, the kids literally ran back down the Hickory Nut Falls Trail. Once we were done admiring the towering waterfall, we turned back towards the main entrance. To this point, our Chimney Rock hiking had been all uphill and the kids had walked most of the way themselves, so the Hickory Nut waterfall was a nice break for them. We enjoyed the view from the viewing platform at the base of this beautiful Chimney Rock waterfall. We turned right and continued our hike for approx 1 more mile until we arrived at the Chimney Rock waterfall.įeatured in the Daniel Day Lewis film “ The Last of the Mohicans“, the Hickory Nut Falls are an impressive 404 feet tall. The Four Seasons Trail ends at a T-intersection with the Hickory Nut Falls Trail. This kid-friendly activity kept her interested and moving forward on the Four Seasons Trail, even though she was a little tired from a poor night’s sleep. There was a Chimney Rock State Park pamphlet at the trailhead with a scavenger hunt in it, so our daughter had fun trying to find all the items in it. We have an entire post full of all our best tips for hiking with kids and this one with all the best hiking gear for kids. This is especially true at the end of the trail as it ends in one long uphill staircase. There are a few spots where the Four Seasons Trail becomes stairs and it becomes a bit of a workout. The hiking trail is about 1.4 miles (2.3km) long and has a gradual uphill slope. This moderate Chimney Rock trail winds through a beautiful deciduous forest on its way up the mountain. We always prefer to walk, so instead of taking the bus, we hiked up the Four Seasons Trail. Either hike from the parking lot to the top or take the Chimney Rock shuttle bus to the top. Once you buy your ticket to enter Chimney Rock, you have a choice to make. There’s plenty of kid-friendly hiking trails, amazing viewpoints, a super high waterfall and even a live animal exhibit featuring the fauna which call Chimney Rock home. Yanking out the second-row seats - which are light enough for a reasonably fit adult to wrangle into the garage - opens up a total interior cargo capacity of 148 cubic feet. This 60/40-split bench still drops neatly into the deep well just inside the rear liftgate, but now the process is easier thanks to changes in the folding mechanism. The third-row seat also benefits from the new Odyssey's larger dimensions with an extra 1.1 inches of legroom. The reconfigured seat's center section also slides forward 5.5 inches (except on the LX trim) to put little ones within easy reach of mom and dad. The Odyssey's growth spurt has made room for a new second-row seat that's nearly 4 inches wider than the one in the outgoing model, a change that makes it roomy enough to fit three car seats side by side. This new Odyssey's updated exterior may be the first thing that catches your eye, but the most significant changes are inside. Read our Honda Odyssey Long-Term 20,000-Mile Test Honda's continuing use of active noise-cancelling technology contributes to the impressively peaceful cabin by emitting counter-phase sound through the speakers to eliminate much of the drone that passengers would otherwise hear. Road and wind noise are nearly silent, as is the drivetrain. On the inside, the 2011 Honda Odyssey is as quiet as a premium luxury sedan. Larger brake discs result in improved braking ability, though the pedal does feel unsettlingly spongy. Part of the credit for this above-average drivability goes to the reworked body structure that's both more rigid and between 50 and 100 pounds lighter depending on the model. Even though the Odyssey is outpowered by the Toyota Sienna's 266-hp V6, this new powertrain feels just as lively, with either minivan able to confidently merge onto the highway or pass slower moving traffic.Ĭomplementing this extra oomph is a retuned suspension that delivers a comfortable ride and excellent handling. Touring models are a bit more responsive thanks to their six-speed automatic transmission that executes shifts quickly and smoothly. Performance is more than adequate for most people's daily needs. And if people say it's uncool, well, they don't know what they're missing.Ĭonsidering it essentially uses the same powertrain as the previous generation, it should come as no surprise that the 2011 Honda Odyssey LX and EX models feel very familiar. But all things considered it's a great choice for a family vehicle. The Odyssey is also a bit pricey compared to vans like the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan and 2011 Kia Sedona. The 2011 Honda Odyssey is a bit roomier, but the Sienna can be had with some features not found on the Honda, such as keyless ignition/entry, adaptive cruise control and all-wheel drive. Its main competition comes from the 2011 Toyota Sienna, which is also redesigned this year. Overall we like what Honda has done and think the Odyssey is still a fine choice for a minivan. A reworked suspension is also new this year, giving the Odyssey a smoother ride quality while also maintaining the van's reputation for above-average handling. More importantly, the V6 comes mated to a new six-speed automatic on top-of-the-line models to deliver snappier acceleration and better fuel economy. Under the hood, the Odyssey continues to draw power from a 3.5-liter V6, though Honda's fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management technology is now standard on all models. There's also a revised mechanism that makes the 60/40-split third-row seat easier to stow. The second-row seat is also more useful this year, with a center section that slides forward and a special configuration mode that's wide enough for three child safety seats. Thanks to a size increase (it's about an inch longer and more than 2 inches wider than last year), the 2011 model has more legroom for second- and third-row passengers. The new Odyssey also offers more comfort and practicality. On the inside, you'll find higher-quality materials and a new dash design that's slightly less busy-looking than before. But Honda has tried to spruce things up with a sleeker grille, more pronounced front fenders and a stylized rear beltline. The latest Odyssey is still very much a modern not-so-mini minivan, with seating for up to eight passengers, sliding rear doors, V6 power and a familiar boxy silhouette. This is still the best kind of vehicle for larger families, and new models like the 2011 Honda Odyssey promise to make the minivan, if not hip, at least a bit less uncool. But don't count the minivan out just yet. In the past decade or so, more and more shoppers have been avoiding the juice-box-and-diapers stigma by purchasing crossovers SUVs. Minivans, it seems, just aren't cool anymore. Our friendly staff will help you find the right shocks that will make you a much easier rider.
